From a pitching standpoint its a good signing, but the obvious weakness in this team is offense so its rather puzzling why they would go for pitching instead. I'd have put all efforts towards resigning Bay. Obvious that won't be happening now. I suppose the good part about it though is that you're not as worried about Beckett leaving after next year now with Lackey signed up here for 5 years. They just better not trade Buchholz away.

Yeah I was hoping that they'd either re-sign Bay or sign Matt Holliday, but that looks like it won't happen right now. They need a really big bat.

At this point, the rotation of Lackey/Beckett/Lester/Wakefield/Buchholz looks awesome and solid on every level.
